Becoming A Supportive Member Of WOW

‘Many will tell you they’re your loyal friends, but who can find one who is truly trustworthy?’ Proverbs 20:6 TPT

This is the story of many of us, day in, day out. We seek support -intentionally or not, whether out of love or necessity, we want to feel supported or validated. Our friends sell goods, we buy- that’s support. A member of the family is in the hospital and we stand by prayerfully and holding hands – that’s support. A friend puts to bed and we carry the matter on our heads, posting pictures and celebrating on our pages- that’s support. Support actually means a great deal and confer different meaning to everyone but what does it mean to be a supportive member of WOW?

One of the definitions in Merriam Webster Dictionary says ‘Support is being able to uphold the interests and cause of something’.

Being a supportive member of WOW means:

  • Upholding the Vision and Mission statements of WOW, in words and deeds.
  • Defending the cause of WOW. This means that, not flouting rules and regulations, not giving advices that will topple homes as against the Vision and Mission statements of WOW.

Before you say, we have been rambling on and on about Mission and Vision. Plus, you may not know what they are, let me tell you:

Vision– Building Home Makers.

Mission- To help one another create our own paradise, by sharing knowledge and experiences aimed at promoting love in our marriages.

  • WOW believes that the woman is the most influential person in the home. So, to change anything, target the woman.
  • WOW’s aim is to help women learn from one another, how marriage can be enjoyed seeing the way marriage is being talked down on in our world today. To lead a life that mirrors that ‘Marriage is an Achievement’.
  • WOW aims to provide succor to women who are in distress, women who need encouragement to keep pedaling.
  • It encourages women to build a home worthy of emulation.
  • It brings teachings to women in form of fun, all to help the woman become a better version of herself.
  • WOW helps to better women’s social lives by creating a platform where women get to unwind.

You might be thinking, ‘Yes I do all these, I am a patriotic member of WOW but nobody ask after me. They don’t even see me; they just care about some group of people.’

Let me inform you that WOW belongs to everyone, that’s what this lecture series is for.

As long as you were added to this awe-mazing group, it belongs to you and I. That’s why the Admin frowns at Cliques. Of course, many will be closer to a particular set of people than others probably by virtue of work and other relationships but still you can also have an amazing relationship with others.

The Bible says; ‘A man who has friends must himself be friendly: But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.’ Proverbs 18:24 NKJV.

The Holy Spirit knew there would be a time people will be struggling with Technology and one of the issues might be this. There is an answer- one that was given years ago, which is in the Bible passage above. Be friendly!

The second part of this verse is interesting, for some of us who don’t have sisters, WOW has given us sisters. Instead of thinking nobody asks of you or only a few people do, why not say, ‘who can I ask of?’

Everyone cannot ask of you. The one person who came probably met you or had your contact in WOW and this gesture should be taken as if it’s the whole WOW group asking after you. We are women with lives, wives within our kingdoms, so we are a busy bunch. Everyone on the group cannot ask of me nor you. Check up on someone too. You cannot be in people’s faces and they will forget you so easily, at least one person will remember you.

I suggest you chat people up, call them if you can, save up their contacts and comment on their statuses when you can. Occasional showing up in people’s faces will definitely be something huge for another. The antidote to feeling forsaken is being in another person’s inbox.

Last week during the lecture, people commented about vibes and that it was easy to make them flow when they first joined. Some others didn’t feel that way though, they felt it was only for a set of people.

This brings me to the issue of some members complaining of the fact that they made a post on the group and no one acknowledged it. I will reiterate this, we don’t fight based on assumptions, we are matured women. It may be that people are not online or there’s an ongoing hot gist. Instead of greeting, flow in the gist and greet later. If you still have any concerns after this, please contact the Admin or any of the coordinators.

In conclusion, a strong group is a group filled with support and love but this cannot come if we fake it. We need to be genuinely supportive, defending the cause of WOW, upholding its rules and regulations, attending lectures, cheering people on and being appreciative of one another.

Thank you for having me.

Questions and Answers

Question 1: If one is giving positive vibes and the other is not responding in the same energy (manner), should it be a cause to be angry or withdraw from the group?

Answer

I know we translate things differently. Sometimes, it could be that the other party is going through a lot and cannot separate emotions from what she is going through.

It is not a cause to be angry if you enjoy being on the group and you are gaining more knowledge than the supposed vibes. Be mindful that if such person doesn’t give you vibe, another person will give you, at least the person who added you. And if you are still not pleased, take it up with the Admin and settle it amicably.

Contribution 1

People are going through a lot. We share laughing emojis just to cover up personal emotions. Social media is covering so many things we are truly facing.

I personally get carried away easily with work because I deal with lots of people (vendors). I get tired of greeting you with the same thing other people have greeted you on. Sometimes, I consider doing ‘Copy & paste’ so I can move on with other things. So, thinking someone doesn’t like you or ignore you without knowing the current state of the person is wrong.

My opinion is that you should reach out to the person personally before jumping to conclusion.
